Myths and facts

What people tell you, and what is true

"Without a C+ you will never get a degree." A diploma is a recognised route into a degree. Many professionals started with a certificate.
"You have to go to Nairobi for a good college." Study in Wajir, close to family, with degree programmes in collaboration with Rongo University.
"Wait a year and repeat." A certificate starts in January 2027. In the time a repeat takes, you can be well into a qualification.
"Applying is complicated." Ten minutes on your phone. Pay KES 1,000 by M-Pesa and get your application number by SMS.
About nursing. The Diploma in Community Health Nursing needs KCSE C (plain), with C in English or Kiswahili and Biology. If you scored D, you cannot join nursing directly, but you can start a health certificate and build a career in community and public health.
For parents and guardians

A certificate is not a consolation prize.

It is a qualification your child can work with, and the first step to a diploma and a degree. Keeping a young person learning this intake protects their momentum. Call 0793 900 991 to speak to admissions, or visit us in Wajir.

Questions students ask

I scored D in KCSE. Can I still go to college?

Yes. With D (plain) you can join a certificate programme at Nuria College. When you pass the certificate you can apply for a diploma in the same field, and a diploma can lead on to a degree. Admissions confirms the entry requirements for each step.

Can I go straight into nursing with a D?

No. The Diploma in Community Health Nursing needs KCSE C (plain) with C in English or Kiswahili and Biology, set by the Nursing Council of Kenya. With a D you can start a health certificate such as Community Health & Development and build towards other health diplomas and a degree in public health.

How long does it take to go from certificate to degree?

Each level takes its own time: certificate first, then diploma, then degree. Ask admissions for the duration of each programme and any credit you may get for what you have already studied.

How much does it cost to apply?

The application fee is KES 1,000 for a certificate, KES 1,500 for a diploma and KES 2,000 for a degree, paid by M-Pesa when you apply online.

When can I start?

Nuria College admits students in January, May, September. The next intake is January 2027.

Do I need to travel to apply?

No. You can apply from your phone in about ten minutes and pay the application fee by M-Pesa. You can also visit the college in Wajir or call 0793 900 991.
